1. Brain-Storming
- Form a diverse group
- four is ideal
- get to know each other
- Understand and make a specific question of what you are trying to accomplish
- Individually come up with ideas
- Read through all of the as a group
- Narrow down your ideas to a top 10
- Pick the five best ideas and create a pro and con list
- Individually create a case for the one you want to pursue
- Agree upon the idea you want to pursue
- Support this idea, it is now your groups idea
2. Elimination
- You come up with many ideas, limit the amount you actually need
- You do not need all the extra "fluff"
- Limit your ideas to only what you need
3. Adapt
- How can we make it better?
- How can we improve the process?
- How can we make it more individualized?
- Make the project human-centered/audience centered
4. Mind Map
- Using different colors, and smelly markers help you remember things
- Each idea can branch off into a new idea
- This replicates how your brain works and the path your brian takes to come up with ideas.
5. Reverse Thinking
- Thinking of all of the wrong ideas to then flip and make them a positive solution for your problem
- People are too set in there ways, which makes it hard to come up with new ideas
- Helps you gain a new perspective on a topic
- This helps free your brain and puts less pressure on you to come up with the "right" idea
6. Different Ways to Think of an Idea
- Each person has a different preference on how to approach an idea
- Ex. Physical, hands on experience, versus and analytical approach
7. Forced Relationships
- The action of putting two things together that are not usually associated with each other
- Easy way to come up with lots of ideas (good and bad)
- oxymoron combinations
8. Modify
- Take something that is already functional and make it better
- Change it and make it better
- Ex. A phone case's functions to protect the phone from damage, but to make it better you can add a pouch on the back to allow the consumer to place their credit cards and cash inside
9. Put to Another Use
- Can something be used in another context?
- Ex. paperclip: how can you use this differently?
- It could be used as a hair clip
- Ex. paperclip: how can you use this differently?
- The new use should focus on the audience's needs
